James Owen

Operations Director

Starting his career in engineering in 2003 as an apprentice at Lloyds Brierley Hill, James quickly found an interest in CNC machines and started to work closely with the Programmer which led to him being put on various programming courses. After finishing his apprenticeship, he then moved to a CNC setter/programmer position for a fabrication company which further enhanced his programming skills. James then moved to a forging company that had invested £6 million in a new CNC machine shop making bearing hubs for a top automotive company.  Shortly after joining he was promoted to chargehand as a reward for his work ethic, leadership skills and determination to increase production across the shift.

In 2011 after 4 years as charge hand James wanted to spend more time with his family and found a job closer to home, joining Bowers & Jones as a CNC setter operator.  Since joining B&J he has progressed through the ranks, moving onto Cell Leader and continued to develop his leadership skills and technical knowledge. Having held the positions of Production Engineer and Production Manager more recently, James was one of the three managers who formed the team to complete the successful MBO in 2020 along with his now wife FD Nicola and MD Jane.

Outside of work James enjoys spending time with his family, days out, cruises and is a foody.  He has a very fun and positive outlook on life and this shows in his work life with a “can do” attitude and always willing to get his hands dirty on the tools.
